Best first track car: what to buy and why
The best first track car is usually the one you already own, as long as it's in good mechanical shape. If you're buying one, a light, cheap rear-drive car with cheap brakes and tires is the pick: a 1999 to 2005 Mazda Miata, a 2013 to 2016 Scion FR-S, Toyota 86 or Subaru BRZ, or an ND Miata if your budget reaches about $20,000. Check your local club's convertible rules before buying any open car.
