Akebono Euro Ceramic is the low-dust pad BMW owners recommend most, and on an F30 it costs about what OE pads cost. The catch is softer cold bite. On a G20 330i or G01 X3, BimmerWorld's DFC ceramics are the low-cost low-dust option.
Look at your front caliper before you order. Single-piston and four-piston M Sport calipers take different pads, even on the same model. If you drive an F30, the full fitment tables are in our guide to the best brake pads for a BMW F30.

How we picked
Every pad here is sold by a BMW specialist or brake retailer with a BMW fitment, checked on 14 October 2026. Dust and bite ratings come from Turner's brake pad buying guide where it rates the pad; anything else is labelled a seller claim or owner report. We left out track-only pads. We found no measured dust tests on BMWs.
The picks at a glance
Pad | Best for | Dust, and who says so | Front set price, October 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
Akebono Euro Ceramic | Lowest dust with near-OE stopping | Least dust, per owner threads | |
BimmerWorld DFC 5000 / DFC 3000 | Low dust on a G20 or G01 X3 budget | "Drastically reduce" dust (seller) | |
Hawk Performance Ceramic | Low dust on F3x single-piston brakes | "Practically no brake dust" (seller) | |
Centric Posi-Quiet | Turner's lowest dust rating | "Very low brake dust" (Turner) | Not priced; use a vehicle selector |
PowerStop Z23 Evolution Sport | Lowest-priced low-dust set | "Low", third-party tested (seller) | |
OE-number pads (Brembo, Textar) | Best bite if you can live with dust | "Heavy brake dust" (Turner) |
None of these listings says a wear sensor is included. Front sensors start at about $15.
Why BMW brakes make so much dust
BMW's factory pads are built for bite, and dust is the price. Turner rates genuine BMW and OE-supplier pads (Textar, Pagid, Jurid) as "heavy brake dust" with "typically very good initial bite".
Some cars got a sharper pad still. On some 2012–2013 US 335i cars, the M Sport brake option was just a Euro-spec pad with "much more bite" that dusts "a lot more" (Turner).
Dust vs bite vs noise
Lower dust nearly always means a softer first bite. Turner's guide gives "very low brake dust" to one street pad, Centric Posi-Quiet, and rates its initial bite "moderate".
Pad family | Dust | Noise | Initial bite | Price vs OEM |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Genuine BMW / OE (Textar, Pagid, Jurid) | Heavy | Low | Very good | Expensive |
Centric Posi-Quiet | Very low | Low | Moderate | Less |
StopTech Street Performance | Some | Some | Very good | Same or less |
Hawk HPS 5.0 | Some | Some | Not rated | Less |
Pagid Sport | Some | Some | Needs heat | More |
Pagid RS29 (track) | Heavy | High | Excellent | High |
The guide doesn't rate Akebono, Hawk Performance Ceramic or EBC.
Best low-dust pad: Akebono Euro Ceramic
Akebono is named in all three BMW low-dust threads we read. On a 2010 Bimmerforums X5 thread, owners said it dusted far less than OEM but bit less at first (Bimmerforums). On a 2023 E90Post thread, an owner who'd run them on another car put the downside bluntly: "the lack of cold bite and pedal feel were terrible" (E90Post).
Part numbers follow the caliper. On an F30 it's EUR1561A for grey single-piston calipers and EUR1880 for grey or painted four-piston calipers (Turner). On a G01 X3 with M Sport brakes it's EUR1867A, $180.99 at Turner.
Best budget low dust for G20 and X3: BimmerWorld DFC
BimmerWorld's DFC ceramics undercut OE pads on newer cars. The DFC 5000 (1551-1892-00) fits base single-piston brakes on the G20 330i and G01 X3 30i for $59.99. The DFC 3000 fits the 34116889570 pad position, used on M Sport brakes and the M340i and X3 M40i, for $68.99. BimmerWorld says both "drastically reduce" dust.
The drawback is the fine print. The DFC 3000 doesn't fit the 374 mm Motorsport Engineering, Track Package or ZTK brakes, and its G20 fitments stop at 2/2022 production.
Also good: Hawk Performance Ceramic
Hawk's ceramic pad claims stock stopping power with "practically no brake dust" (BimmerWorld). Part HB748Z.723 fits single-piston F22, F3x and F25 X3 cars only. At $180.89, it's about twice the Akebono.
Watch the naming. Hawk also sells HPS and HPS 5.0 pads (Tire Rack), and Turner rates HPS 5.0 as "some dust". In these listings the ceramic's part number has a Z (HB748Z.723) and the HPS 5.0 a B (HB765B.664).
Lower-cost low-dust options: Centric and PowerStop
Centric Posi-Quiet earns Turner's only "very low brake dust" rating and costs less than OEM. We didn't confirm a BMW price, so use a store's vehicle selector.
PowerStop's Z23-1609 is $51.30 on sale at BuyBrakes (list $71.65). PowerStop says the low dust was "verified in 3rd party on-vehicle testing" and rates its stopping power 3 out of 5. Its F30 entries are for four-piston calipers, and some exclude blue ones, so run your VIN.

If you want bite more than clean wheels
Stay with OE-spec pads, or step up to Hawk HPS 5.0 or StopTech Street Performance, both "some dust" in Turner's guide. EBC's Yellowstuff and Redstuff are the other common choices; a 2010 Bimmerforums post says EBC lacks "the best reputation in BMWland", though its author hadn't run them.
Skip race pads on the street. Pagid's RSL29 costs $862.99 front and rear at ECS, and Turner rates the compound heavy dust, high noise.
Which pads fit your BMW
Count the front caliper pistons. That decides the pad shape, not the M Sport badge.
F30, F31 and F34 3 Series (2012–2019)
Most 320i, 328i and 330i cars have grey single-piston calipers and take EUR1561A ($94.99 on sale). The stock 335i has a grey four-piston Brembo; M Sport brakes (S2NHA) are four-piston, blue on US cars from 2014 (Turner F30 guide). Those take EUR1880 ($119.99). Rotor sizes, OE pads and UK prices are on the F30 brake pad page.
G20 3 Series (2019 on)
G20 base brakes are grey single-piston; M Sport brakes are blue or red four-piston.
G20 front pad | Fits | Price, October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
Bosch Blue ceramic BE1892H | 330i base brakes | |
BimmerWorld DFC 5000 1551-1892-00 | 330i, 330e base brakes | |
BimmerWorld DFC 3000 | 330i M Sport brakes and M340i, to 2/2022 | |
Genuine BMW 34116889570 | Same position | $387.99 Turner (sale) |
X3 G01 (2018 on)
At Turner, pads listed for cars without M Sport brakes cost $52.99 to $116.79; pads listed for M Sport brakes (S2NHA) cost $180.99 to $405.99. BimmerWorld's $68.99 DFC 3000 fits X3 30i M Sport brakes and the X3 M40i.
X3 G01 front pad | Brakes | Price at Turner, October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
Bosch Blue ceramic BE1892H | Base | |
Pagid 34106888777 | Base | $97.99 |
Akebono EUR1867A | M Sport | $180.99 |
Genuine BMW 34106884497 | Listings disagree (see below) | $180.99 (sale) |
EBC Bluestuff DP52302NDX | M Sport | $405.99 (sale) |
Turner gives 34106884497 an M Sport brakes note, but BimmerWorld lists that number on two base-brake pads marked not for M Sport (BimmerWorld ATE). When listings disagree, trust the caliper and your VIN.
M cars: G80 M3, F80 M3
M cars have few low-dust options. On Turner's G80 front pad list, only EBC's Redstuff (DP32454C, $375.99 on sale, not for carbon ceramic brakes) is described as low dust (Turner G80). iSWEEP's IS1500 street pad is $625.00. Pagid's OE set (34108093705) is $196.99 on sale, and Genuine BMW's pad with the same number is $837.99.
Carbon-ceramic cars need different pads, and listings are messy. BimmerWorld's DFC 5000 M-car pad says it fits the G80's carbon-ceramic caliper and also "For Iron Brakes only" (BimmerWorld). For the F80, the listings we checked had Hawk HPS 5.0 (HB765B.664) but no low-dust ceramic. Order M-car pads by VIN only.
Do you need new rotors and wear sensors?
You need a new sensor if the old one has triggered, and Turner's listings recommend replacing the sensor wire with the pads. G01 front sensors start at $14.68 (Bremmen) at Turner. On the F30 it's 34356792289, $18.99 from Brembo at ECS.
Replace rotors if they're under the minimum thickness stamped on them, or if the car shakes when you brake (see why your car shakes when you brake). Turner's listing for the genuine 34116889570 pad recommends new rotors at the same time. Bed in any new pad, which Turner says is "required".
Where to buy
FCP Euro suits owners keeping the car. Its lifetime guarantee covers brake pads and rotors, but read the terms:
- You buy the replacement first, then return the old part in its maker's box with the returns form.
- The refund is store credit for what you originally paid.
- It's not transferable: you must own the car and be the original buyer of the parts.
- It doesn't cover labor, and customers with an "excessively high" return rate are ineligible.
Turner's Lifetime Replacement Program covers some parts, including its OE Textar F30 pad, but not the EBC Greenstuff pad we checked. Tire Rack sells Akebono, Brembo, Centric, Hawk, PowerStop and StopTech, but not EBC (Tire Rack).
In the UK, ClickMechanic quotes £107 for 3 Series front pads, parts and labor, against £193 at a franchise dealer. Euro Car Parts, GSF and Autodoc need your registration to show pads. We couldn't confirm UK stock of Akebono Euro.
How to check this on your own car
- Photograph the front caliper through the spokes and count the pistons.
- Decode your VIN and look for S2NHA (M Sport brakes) or P337A (M Sport package).
- Measure rotor diameter and thickness against the minimum stamped on it.
- Photograph the same wheel 500 miles after each pad change.
What to do today
- Count your front caliper pistons and note the caliper colour.
- Pick the pad by caliper: Akebono for an F30, DFC for a G20 or G01, a VIN-matched pad for an M car.
- Add a front wear sensor to the cart, from about $15.
- Measure your rotors, then bed in the new pads before any hard stops.

Common questions
Do low-dust pads stop worse?
Not in a proven way, but they usually bite softer when cold. Turner rates Centric's very-low-dust pad "moderate" for initial bite against "very good" for OE. We found no independent BMW stopping test.
Can I put ceramic pads on OEM rotors?
Yes. Every pad here is sold to fit the factory rotor size. Swap the rotors only if they're worn below minimum or cause vibration.
Do I need a new wear sensor?
Yes if the warning came on. Turner's listings recommend one with each pad change anyway, and front sensors start at about $15.
