Ferrari Owners Club Indonesia: gatherings, events and how to join

Short answer

Ferrari Owners Club Indonesia (FOCI) is the non-profit club for Ferrari owners in Indonesia, founded in Jakarta in 2002 and now about 150 members strong. It runs monthly gatherings, quarterly events and multi-day tours such as a Bali rally, with chapters in Jakarta, Surabaya and Batam. It is a club for Ferrari owners, and the way in is through the club contacts Ferrari lists or the Jakarta dealer.

Ferrari Owners Club Indonesia, usually shortened to FOCI, is the country's club for Ferrari owners. It was founded in Jakarta in 2002, has about 150 active members, and spends most of its time driving: monthly gatherings, quarterly events and long tours across Java and Bali (Ferrari.com).

Here's how the club started, who has run it, what its calendar looks like and how membership works.

What FOCI is

FOCI is a non-profit club where Ferrari owners in Indonesia share experiences and drive together (RM.id). Ferrari lists it on its official owners club pages, which describe it as founded after an authorized Ferrari dealer opened in Jakarta.

The membership covers almost every era of the car. The club's own description on Ferrari.com says it has "almost all Ferrari models starting from classic era up to the latest models," with members from a wide range of backgrounds.

Five people founded it in 2002: Ruhut Sitompul, George Widjojo, Jack Budiman, Soetikno Soedarjo and Indrajit Sarjono (detikOto, RM.id).

Committees and presidents since 2002

FOCI elects a president and committee for multi-year terms. detikOto published the full list of presidents in January 2022, when the club turned 20.

We couldn't confirm who leads the club after 2024. Ferrari.com's club page still lists Hanan Supangkat as president, William Tjandra as vice president and Jeffry Wikarsa as treasurer, so it looks out of date.

Committee changes are a social event in their own right. In December 2015, detikOto covered FOCI Festa d'Addio, a farewell and handover party at Hotel Mulia in Senayan, Jakarta. Faisal Haris took over as vice president from Hanan Supangkat, Sandi Pranata became secretary general, and Jos Parengkuan became treasurer.

That night had a 1920s theme, a Roberto Cavalli fashion show and a wine auction. The auction raised Rp 530 million for five charities in Greater Jakarta. Lamborghini Club Indonesia, Porsche Club Indonesia and McLaren Club Indonesia were among the guests (detikOto).

Ahmad Sahroni, president during the 2014 season, went on to enter national politics. Wikipedia notes he took a seat in Indonesia's House of Representatives on October 1, 2014.

The FOCI event calendar

The club runs a regular rhythm of events, plus one-off tours. Ferrari.com lists the core calendar.

  • Monthly gatherings for members.
  • Quarterly events across the year.
  • FOCI Bali Rally, a three-day tour to Bali, usually held mid-year.
  • Appreciation to Indonesia Heritage, a Central Java tour taking in Yogyakarta, Solo and Borobudur Temple.
  • Bandung Tour, an overnight run to Bandung, usually at the end of the year.

The tours are big. The Ferrari Trans Java Tour ran from March 1 to 3, 2019, with 38 Ferraris (Ferrari Jakarta). The route left Jakarta from the Fairmont hotel and ran via the Cipali toll road to Cirebon, Semarang, Solo and Surabaya, then back.

The cars on that run ranged from a Classiche-certified 512 Testarossa and 360 Modenas to the 488 GTB, 488 Spider, F12 Berlinetta and FF (Ferrari Jakarta).

Track time is more occasional. When FOCI turned 20, Indonesia's motorsport body IMI offered members the chance to drive the Mandalika International Circuit, and the club pledged support for the MotoGP round there on March 18 to 20, 2022 (detikOto).

Chapters outside Jakarta

FOCI has three chapters. Jakarta came first in 2002, Surabaya in East Java followed in 2014, and Batam was declared on April 7, 2019 (Medcom).

Batam started small, with 10 members. The launch was a gathering at a Best Western hotel in Panbil, a drive to the Barelang Bridge and a seafood lunch (detikOto).

How Ferrari owners clubs work

Ferrari.com lists owners clubs country by country, and the ones we checked are run independently by members. The Ferrari Owners' Club UK, running since 1967, calls itself the Ferrari S.p.A. recognised owners club for the UK, with a close relationship with Ferrari's regional office and the factory (FOC UK).

Membership rules are usually simple. In the UK, full membership is open to anyone who owns or has owned a Ferrari, and non-owners can join as associates with access to some events (FOC UK).

Scale varies a lot. The Ferrari Club of America dates to 1962, has more than 13,000 members in 60 chapters across the US and Canada, and runs about 900 members-only events a year, from rallies to concours and track days (Ferrari Lake Forest).

FOCI is far smaller and more social. At about 150 members, it works more like a large group of friends with a shared calendar than a national federation.

Ferrari's presence in Indonesia

Ferrari sells in Indonesia through an authorized distributor, PT Citra Langgeng Otomotif. Its CEO in 2015 and 2018 was Arie Christopher (The Jakarta Post).

Indonesia is a meaningful Ferrari market for the region. The Jakarta Post reported in March 2015 that the company sold up to 60 cars in the previous year, about 35% of Ferrari's ASEAN sales.

Prices are steep because of tax. In that same report, the cheapest Ferrari on sale, the California T, cost $680,000 off the road, with a 125% luxury goods sales tax cited as a shock to buyers. In 2018, the company said it had delivered 20 tailor-made Ferraris to Indonesian customers (The Jakarta Post).

How to join FOCI

FOCI doesn't publish membership fees or a public application form that we could find. Here's the practical route.

  1. Own a Ferrari. Every source we found describes FOCI as a club for owners, and Ferrari's network is built around owners.
  2. Ask at Ferrari Jakarta. The club was founded after the dealer opened, and the dealer has co-hosted club events, including the 2015 handover party (detikOto).
  3. Contact the club directly. Ferrari.com's FOCI page lists officers' contact details and a South Jakarta address on Jalan TB Simatupang.
  4. If you live in East Java or Batam, ask about the Surabaya or Batam chapters, which run their own gatherings.
  5. Start with a gathering. Monthly meets are the easiest way to meet members before a long tour like the Bali Rally.
